マットボックスとは?業界最軽量、柔軟なクリエイティブコントロールを実現する「BaseCamp」をご紹介

Do you know what a matte box is?

Simply put, a matte box is like a large lens hood that is attached to the end of a lens. It cuts out flare and halation by blocking light with the flag, and the filter thread allows for filters to be attached. It is a professional camera gear used in filming video works that require careful attention to lighting .

What is the BaseCamp Matte Box System?

The BaseCamp Matte Box System released by PolarPro is a creative system that allows flexible light control by attaching up to three filters to the industry's lightest unit (298g).

With a lineup of over 10 types of filters and lens mounts and rail mounts compatible with any shooting system, you can create the ultimate shooting system.

System Configuration

The core of the BaseCamp matte box system is the " VND Kit ."

The VND Kit is the base kit for the BaseCamp matte box system, and in addition to the core unit (including the hood and flag), it includes six types of clamp rings and two types of thread plates that can be attached to various lenses, and comes with two types of filters: a CP filter and a VND-2-5 filter.

BaseCamp VND Kit

・Core unit + hood + flag
・CP filter (stage 1)
・VND 2-5 filter (stage 2)
・EVA case
・Clamp ring (80mm/87mm/95mm/100mm/104mm/110mm)
・77mm thread plate
・82mm thread plate

The diameter of the core unit is 114mm, so lenses with an outer diameter of 114mm can be attached as is.
For lenses with an outer diameter of 114mm or less, use a clamp ring or thread plate to attach the core unit.
The clamp ring is used to attach to lenses without filter threads, and the thread plate is used to attach to lenses with filter threads.

3-stage filter system

The BaseCamp core unit comes with two types of filter threads: "Stage 1" and "Stage 2."

Stage 1:

Circular filters can be attached to Stage 1, and in addition to the CP filter included in the VND Kit, two other types of filters, " BlueMorphic " and " GoldMorphic ," are available separately.

Stage 2:

The Stage 2 can accommodate square filters, and the VND Kit includes a 2-5 stop variable ND filter.

Please note that all variable filters that can be used with BaseCamp must be used in conjunction with a Stage 1 CP filter .

The concentration can be changed by rotating the CP filter.
*If you install the VND filter upside down, the color temperature will change.

Therefore, it is not possible to use the circular BlueMorphic/GoldMorphic filter in conjunction with VND .

Other products in the Stage 2 lineup include VND6-9 filters and a "Mist filter" that softly diffuses the light source.

Stage 3:

Stage 3 allows you to add a third filter thread using an optional expansion adapter .

It has the same square filter thread as Stage 2, and the filters that can be used are the same as Stage 2.

The lineup of filters that can only be used with Stage 3 includes the ND4-GR filter and ND8-GR filter , which control the density of the sky and ground using a gradient.

Introduction to imaging systems

A dedicated mount is also available for incorporating into rail systems used in filming systems using large cinema cameras.

" Studio 19mm " " Studio 15mm " " LWS 15mm "

Three types of rail mounts are available, and there is also an option called " Light Fly " which connects the lens and core unit without the need for a clamp ring/thread plate when using the rail system , blocking out light.

Tool-free

BaseCamp's tool -free design allows all assembly and installation, including the unit itself, to be done without tools, eliminating the need for tools and preventing situations where you are unable to assemble the unit.

With the industry's lightest system, tool-free design, and expandable 3-stage filter system, the BaseCamp Matte Box is suitable for any shooting condition and is a recommended photography tool for anyone considering upgrading their photography system.
